Causes and Conditions
Extensor Tendonitis causes top-of-foot pain when the extensor tendons that flex the feet and lift the toes become inflamed, tight, and injured during walking and running. Tight-fitting shoes paired with repetitive stress can cause injury to the tendons of the foot which eventually causes tendonitis (acute) or if chronic tendon degeneration (tendinosis).
